Somnia’s standout innovation its proprietary MultiStream architecture enables the network to process over one million transactions per second with sub second finality, delivering high throughput without sacrificing decentralization.
Additional technical features include compiled EVM bytecode execution, IceDB for ultra low latency data access, and advanced compression technologies for cost efficient operations.
Launched by UK based tech company Improbable along with the Somnia Foundation, the Somnia mainnet went live in early September 2025 after a rigorous six month testnet that processed over 10 billion transactions, including a record setting single day throughput of 1.9 billion transactions.
At launch, the network operated with 60 validators, including prominent participants like Google Cloud, and integrated with several ecosystem partners LayerZero, Sequence, Ankr, DIA, and Thirdweb.
Somnia has gained traction among major exchanges:
- Binance: Announced a perpetual futures contract for SOMI/USDT, launching on August 25, 2025, allowing up to 5× leverage. The token is designed for gas, staking, validator rewards, and eventual on chain governance featuring a deflationary mechanism where 50% of collected gas fees are burned.
- KuCoin: Enabled spot trading for SOMI/USDT starting on September 2, 2025 at 14:30 UTC, preceded by a one hour call auction from 13:30 to 14:30. Withdrawals opened the next day.
- Bitget: Listed SOMI in its Innovation & Public Chain zone, with spot trading available from September 2, 2025, and withdrawals from September 3, 2025.
These listings mark Somnia’s rapid integration into major exchange ecosystems and increased market accessibility.
Somnia’s launch and its inclusion across major exchanges have drawn attention but also caution. Analysts note that while the project’s impressive technical benchmarks and backing from infrastructure players are encouraging, extreme price volatility and relatively low float may challenge short term stability.
Future interest will likely hinge on actual developer activity, real world adoption in gaming/metaverse applications, and transparent supply unlock schedules.
